ILLUSTRATIVE VISUAL CONCEPT
A DISTINCT IDC DISCIPLINE

Design for the real operating hour.

A commercial interior is experienced by guests, customers, residents, staff and the teams who keep it running. We consider atmosphere, material language and furniture alongside service flow, storage, cleaning, access and the building's daily realities.

NEW & EXISTING COMMERCIAL PLACES

Two ways to begin.

New builds and renovations are two starting points. Design, build, project management and fitout are each agreed within the actual appointment.

01 / NEW-SPACE INTERIORS

New builds

Bring an interior point of view into a new hospitality, food-and-beverage, retail, fast-food or senior-living brief early. Customer, guest or resident experience and operating requirements are developed with the operator and appointed advisers.

  • Spatial experience & material direction
  • Guest, customer, resident & staff journeys
  • Technical interfaces with appointed specialists

Renovations

Change an existing setting while respecting the people and routines still within it. Where fitout is appointed, scope, protected routes, working windows and handback are planned against the operator's brief.

  • Staged refurbishment planning
  • Operational routes & temporary provisions
  • Inspections, close-out & return to use

DESIGN / BUILD / PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Design. Build.
Project manage.

Commercial projects can involve design, project-scoped fitout/build and project management—but the exact appointment, statutory roles and site responsibilities are agreed for each brief.

01 / DESIGN

Design for use.

Spatial experience, materials, furniture, joinery and lighting considered alongside movement, cleaning, storage and service flow.

02 / BUILD WHEN APPOINTED

Fitout with purpose.

Where IDC is appointed for fitout, protection, services interfaces, finishes, joinery installation and room checks are coordinated to the agreed contract.

03 / PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Keep the brief legible.

Operator needs, specialist inputs, programme, approvals and handover are aligned to IDC's agreed project-management and coordination role.

WHERE WE FOCUS

Designed for everyday life.

Hospitality, food and beverage, retail and fast-food, and senior living each demand specific answers for the people who use and operate them.

01 / HOSPITALITY

Guest experience, operationally resolved.

Guest rooms and suites, arrival, reception, lounges, wellness and changing spaces considered through arrival, rest, work, cleaning, storage and service routines.

Operator and specialist requirements are agreed for each project.
02 / FOOD & BEVERAGE

Atmosphere that serves the service.

Cafés, restaurants and bars shaped around seating, circulation, acoustics, servery and back-bar access, equipment interfaces and changing dayparts.

Commercial kitchens and catering equipment remain with appointed specialists.
03 / RETAIL & FAST-FOOD

Clarity at the point of choice.

Retail environments and quick-service venues designed around customer movement, queue and collection routes, staff workflow, sightlines, wayfinding and durable finishes.

Specialist food-service equipment, access and regulatory interfaces are agreed with the operator and appointed advisers.
04 / SENIOR LIVING

Rooms that feel like home.

Resident rooms, arrival, lounges, shared dining and village cafés designed for privacy, orientation, familiar scale, visitors and ordinary daily life.

Access, support and clinical interfaces are set by the operator and appointed advisers; design is not a care guarantee.
TEST, STAGE, HAND BACK

Make the idea work in use.

A representative setting can test the design before repetition. Occupied spaces call for careful sequencing and a clear return to operation.

01 / PROVE THE IDEA

One room, resolved first.

Prepare a brief for a room or key setting; review layout, furniture, light, circulation, cleaning access and team feedback; then document what may be repeated and where it must change.

02 / REFURBISHMENT IN USE

Respect the day.

Separate public, staff and work-zone movement; stage work around routines and temporary provisions; agree cleaning, documentation and acceptance before the space returns to use.

A prototype is a review method, not a performance guarantee. Site controls, technical reviews, access, care and statutory responsibilities remain with the operator and appointed project advisers as relevant.

CAFÉS / RESTAURANTS / BARS

Hospitality moves at the speed of service.

We look at covers, staff routes, servery flow, acoustics, durable surfaces and light across changing dayparts. Front-of-house expression connects to the operator's actual service model; specialist commercial kitchens and catering equipment remain with appointed experts.
